Wedding: Shutters on the Beach, Santa Monica, CA

Truthfully, I knew this wedding was going to be incredible. From the moment it was declared it was at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica. From the chic boutique rooms, to the ocean views, it is one of my favorite spots in Los Angeles, that always feels like a destination wedding.

Wedding: Los Angeles River Center and Gardens

Your Laughter by Pablo Neruda

Laugh at the night,
at the day,
at the moon,
laugh at the twisted
streets of the island,
laugh at this clumsy boy
who loves you,
but when I open
my eyes and close them,
when my steps go,
when my steps return,
deny me bread, air,
light, spring,
but never your laughter
for I would die.

Imagine the most perfect woman. Beautiful, kind, respectful, vegan, and a laugh that could cure the saddest stormy day.

This is a flashback from one of my favorites in 2009. Thanks to Jocelyn and Stef for letting me remember what a fabulous location L.A. River Center is to shoot a wedding.

Real Wedding: Dodgers Stadium, Los Angeles, CA

The wedding at Dodgers Stadium:

The stands are filled with only the die hard fans, decked out in the latest pro gear of their favorite team. They wave ESPN signs with witty remarks, and slogans. The air is so hot and is as coarse as the in-field warning track. The grass is crisp and green with not a blade out of place. But today it isn’t about innings, or strikes at the ball park. It is about Brenda and Bobby saying “I will” for the rest of their lives.

Here is some more back story, I have been an associate photographer for Scott Nelson photography for several years. Scott has been so good to me and supported me through out, and helping me grow as a photographer. When he had the opportunity to meet with a family getting married at Dodgers Stadium, he thought of me immediately. It was the best news when I was asked to help Scott capture the moments of the day with him.

I shot this on top of the glass topped table with 30 baseballs underneath. All the balls were from a special Dodger game in history.

They made their wedding invitation look like Dodger tickets!! How exciting! Row 1 Seat 1!

Here comes the bride! She got ready in one of the private suites over looking the entire field.

It is so funny when you compare this location to other venues.

Example: CEREMONY CAPACITY: The site holds 56,000 seated outdoors. (awesome, but that is a lot of party favors)

With sweaty palms and a dewy brow he steps up to home plate. In the faint distance there is a melody on acoustic guitar of “Take me out to the Ballgame,” and a breeze lightens the heavy air. She walks up the stairs and out from the tunnel as he slowly breathes in the moment when he sees her, and today he considers himself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.

The ceremony. Brenda and Bobby are non-traditional, family orientated and absolutely in love (with baseball and each other).
The officiant mentions that this is a “slightly” un-traditional wedding, as the bride and groom smile at the stands and their 40 guests. The kiss! Mwah!

ladodgers_stadium_wedding_6

In this moment, after the kiss, the groom made a beautiful toast to his bride, he said “He was the luckiest man on the face of the Earth.” I think Lou Gehrig would agree.

And then he gave her this passionate kiss that would last a lifetime.

It was my honor and responsibility as an avid Dodgers fan to be a part of this beautiful day. I have been a true Los Angeles Dodgers fan since the age of 6, when I went to my first Pirates game and got a stomach ache from all the delicious goodies. The past few years I have attended a Dodger game every month, including pre and post season, with my boyfriend Jeff. It is a highlight to our week when we know we are going to end up at Dodgers Stadium eating a Dodger Dog, catching a glimpse of Tommy Lasorda, and singing to Nancy Bea’s organ playing during the game.

Everything is Dodger in this place. This the entrance to the suite seating outside, on the ground.

Her simplistic decorations, and little details.
Yum! “A large airy space with high angled ceilings, it enjoys lots of natural light pouring in from floor-to-ceiling windows. A pale granite-and-blonde wood bar stretches out along the opposite wall and once again, there’s a nice mix of booths and more traditional tables. Just outside the windows, there’s a striking view down the first base line flanked by a huge DodgerVision screen.” -From Here Comes the Guide

If you go to the back stage, in Dodgers Stadium, there is a wall with all the names of the greats in the Dodgers Franchise. We stopped by Jackie Robinson, and showed some love.

The first dance done to none other than, Michael Franks’, Baseball.

They changed into their custom Dodgers gear! “Dodger Stadium, an instant L.A. landmark since 1962 and home of the eight-time National League West Division champions, is a place where Angelenos’ hopes and dreams can come true, from seeing an amazing triple play or catching a fly ball headed their way, to watching their team clinch the title. But nothing compares to holding your wedding here, because that’s when the City of Angels’ ballpark becomes your own personal field of dreams.” – from Here Comes the Guide

The bride is so fantastic. She loves photography and has a great website. I was so delighted when she wanted a photo together. (Thank you Scott)

Of course I have to put my photo of me and Tommy Lasorda up too. I was able to meet and photograph him for an awards ceremony by Olive View UCLA Medical Center Foundation. It was an honor to meet him and hear all his fantastic inspirational stories.

dodgers_wedding_photography9

Thank you to Bobby and Brenda for their beautiful day. It was truly one I will never forget and Dodger Stadium holds a little more romance and magic for me.
